BOARD MINUTES
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2008
The
meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbus Bridge Center in
Columbus, Ohio, by the president, Linda Rice.
Members
present
were: Suman
Agarwal, Jeanne Griffin, Bob Jiobu, Russell Peffers, Linda Rice, Cheryl
Schneider. Absent: Pat Bacher, Steve
McCafferty, Nancy Moore, Kathryn Pyant.

Secretary’s
Report: Cheryl Schneider moved and Russell Peffers
seconded the minutes for be accepted.
Motion passed.
Treasurer’s
Report: Jeanne Griffin presented COBA’s Financial
Statement as of February 26, 2008. Currently
the club assets are $47,863 (including $14,100 in prepayments to Haimerl Center
for rental of the facilities through 2009).
This does not include $4,000 for the card dealing machine; $2,750 due
April 1, to the Haimerl Center for the 2010 Sectional; and the bill for Mini
McKenney medals. The net income for the
Winter tournament was $542.
Suman
Agarwal moved and Cheryl Schneider seconded the Treasurer’s Report be
accepted. Motion passed.
Corresponding
Secretary: Suman Agarwal
reported he had sent flyers for the Spring Sectional to the clubs. He also reported the card dealing machine has
arrived.
Awards Dinner: The date is April 6, 2008, starting at 1:30. There will be two sessions of bridge with a
meal in between. Cheryl Schneider is
the chair, and Jim Bachelder will be the emcee. The medallions and certificates have arrived. Jim will print the programs. Suman and Cheryl will look into the
food. Suman moved and Russell seconded
the 2007 new Life Masters (7) and winners in each category (19) attend free. The motion passed. We will send letters to the award
recipients, inviting them. The Non-Life
Master with the most points in 2007 will receive the John Davis trophy; Jim
Bachelder will receive a plaque in tribute for his service to COBA, Paula Justl
will be memorialized with a picture and plaque (We will contact Terry James or
her son for a picture); members who make the Barry Crane and recipient of the
most points at Columbus Sectionals will be honored.
We
will design a letterhead with a hand of cards and COBA on it.
Spring Tournament
March 28-30, 2008: Tournament
Chair: Linda Rice; Hospitality Chair: Lenore Smart; Partnership Chair: Bob
Jiobu; Caddies: Mark Bullimore; Set-Up: John Fleeman. We will have a pancake breakfast at 9:30 on Saturday
morning. We are still looking for a way
to display section signs at team games.
Summer Tournament
June 20-22, 2008: Tournament
Chair: Jeanne Griffin; Hospitality Chair: Lenore Smart; Partnership Chair:
Lenore Smart; Caddies: Mark Bullimore; Set-Up: John Fleeman. Tom Fletcher will work on a picnic for
Saturday evening before the General Meeting.
We will have desserts only for hospitality that night. Linda will prepare the Flyer and Midwest
Monitor ad.
Flying Buckeye
Regional Tournament July 29-August 3, 2008:
Cheryl
reported the flyers will go out soon.
Columbus will try to do a breakfast in order to do more to help with the
work of the tournament. We will
investigate using the card dealing machine at the tournament. It needs a computer that has XP.
Card Machine: Suman and Cheryl will work on learning how
to operate the machine and will report back at the next meeting. There is
another program for $59 which will give hand records.
Suggestions
from Members: There is a
suggestion box at the Columbus Bridge Club.
One was to have the tournament games start sooner so players could avoid
the rush hour traffic when going home.
It was decided to leave the time the same. Another suggestion was that winners at the Columbus Bridge Center
should all be listed or none should be listed.
Cheryl said the club has a new program that will make it easier to print
the results and post them.
New Business:
Election
Committee: Linda will contact
John Fleeman and send something to Suman to send to the Clubs.

adjourned, seconded by Jeanne Griffin.
