CENTRAL OHIO BRIDGE ASSOCIATION

BOARD MINUTES

TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 2007

The meeting began at 5:45 p.m. at the Columbus Bridge Center in Columbus, Ohio. Since we did not have a quorum, no votes were taken.

Members present were:

Mark Bullimore, Robert Jiobu, Linda Rice, Cheryl Schneider, Lenore Smart, John Westinghouse,

Absent: Suman Agarwal, John Fleeman, Steve McCafferty, Russell Peffers, Kathryn Pyant, Jack Rice.

Minutes: We reviewed the minutes and no objections were voiced.

Treasurer’s Report: The April 24, 2007, statement shows a balance of $33,802, with hidden assets of $10,600 for prepaid items, for a total of $44,402. We had a loss of $904 on the Awards Banquet, but we had planned for this. The Spring Tournament provided a profit of $1,272.

President: We will attempt to reach John Fleeman and Jack Rice to determine their current status. Previous attempts have been unsuccessful.

2007 Awards Dinner: The dinner went well and people seemed pleased by the food and the evening’s events. Tom Fletcher did a good job of taking care of the food almost single handedly.

2007 Inter-City Championship: The date is May 12. John Westinghouse reported Dayton was having problems getting enough players, as they seem to every year. We decided that if they do not have enough players by May 1, we will suggest they just come over to join us for a Unit bridge day of six rounds of Swiss teams.

Elections: No report. A few names were suggested for prospective new members. Mark will have more information next meeting.

June 8-10 Sectional Tournament: Suman Agarwal had to return to India unexpectedly, but he is expected to return on May 17. If he does not get back in time for the June tournament, John Westinghouse and Cheryl Schneider both volunteered to help with the running of the tournament. Kathryn Pyant is hospitality chair; Bob Jiobu is partnership chair; and Mark Bullimore is caddy chair. Mark will prepare the flyers and get them distributed. We discussed having a survey of people’s preferences. Bob Jiobu and Mark Bullimore will work on this. We are encouraged to think of questions we might want to include.

October 19-21 Sectional Tournament: Mark Bullimore will be tournament chair; Lenore Smart will be hospitality chair; Linda Rice will be partnership chair; and Mark Bullimore will be Caddy chair. Mark will send the schedule to ACBL.

2005 Flying Buckeye Regional Tournament: This will be held July 31-August 5, 2007. Cheryl said she will mail flyers to all the big outside clubs.

Card Machine: We asked Cheryl Schneider to investigate costs and specifics of purchasing and using a card machine. She will also look into the special cards that are required.

New Business: John Westinghouse questioned the cost of the caddies being used at the sectional tournaments. We use two caddies for seven sessions at $25 each per session, plus $5 each for lunch. We decided that was reasonable.

Next Meeting Date: We decided on Tuesday, May 22, at 5:30 p.m.
